Why You Should Pack Your Bags and Set Sail

Written by: Monica Bestek

And if travel is like love, it is, in the end, mostly because it’s a heightened state of awareness, in which we are mindful, receptive, undimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why the best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end…
- Pico Iyer

Are you like me with an unquenchable thirst to travel? Some see it as running away, but to me, traveling is a like a breath of fresh air… Something new and inspiring to me - it resets my mind… It’s my form of meditation. #SorryYogis

If you’re someone that only dreams of jumping on a plane, exploring new places, and escaping your little town or bustling city, here are 3 damn good reasons you just need to pack your bags and set sail!

It’s a learning process

Beyond the history of the places you’ll visit and the cultures you’ll experience, more importantly, you will learn how to build critical social skills. It’s not an easy task interacting with completely opposite beings who don’t share a common language or behaviors with you. This forces you to solve problems you’d have never been exposed to confined in your hometown. However, despite discomfort, you’ll develop a new kind of love, widened perspective, and become richer in knowledge of the boundless world around you. Just go once and you’re guaranteed to come back a changed person.

It becomes a part of your life story

Why not make your life story as wonderful as you can by meeting extraordinary people and indulging in treats unfamiliar to the tongue? You only live one life so make your story worth telling. Give it colour, exist outside banality, make plenty of mistakes, and gain valuable lessons. Then, share it.

It brings contentment

Happiness is extremely important, especially in the world we’re living in today when shit goes down left and right. We’re all aiming to be the best we can possibly be, but constantly chasing success and wealth can lead to life slipping right through your hands. Taking a break and setting sail through this wonderful world forces you to live in the present - the happiness of the locale wherever you may be is infectious and transcends onto you. Being away also makes you appreciate home and family… I promise, you’ll come back with feelings of novel contentment, so why not commit to that plane, train, or bus ticket?
