WARNING: This is not your typical blog tips post - this is more, this is deep, and this is the cold hard truth that everyone is thinking but no one talks about.
If you want a play by play on how to strategically blog, this post is not for you. If you want to really stand out as a blogger, and you’re willing to put in the work, read on…
Don’t comment on Instagram
…unless it is a genuine and well-thought out comment. Most of you comment the sweetest, most in-depth thoughts on Zanita Studio. But we still get the occasional “Cute skirt babe!”, or “Great tips”.
Those comments are still lovely, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. However, did you put as much thought into that type of comment as you put into one of your own blog or Instagram posts? Probably not. (Comment below if I’m wrong!)
The majority of the time bloggers comment on Instagram, it’s for their own benefit, not because they actually like what you’re doing/wearing. Trust me, I used to be one of those people until I decided I was going to stand out as a blogger and zag around everyone else.
Solve a problem
Are you solving a problem when you blog or post on Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube? If not, no one cares. #sorryiaintsorry
Think about how often you go on YouTube to watch someone talk about their opinion on skinny jeans. Not very often, right? But how many times do you YouTube “how to curl your hair like a Kardashian”? Maybe it’s not that exact term but when you go on social media or visit someone’s blog, you are hoping they solve a problem for you.
Even those “pointless hauls” on YouTube solve a problem for you: what to buy for spring/summer/fall/winter.
We all have questions and we all want answers and the best way to stand out as a blogger is to answer as many of these questions as possible. Not everyone is going to come out and ask questions, so you have to do some research. (Yup… research. If it was easy, everyone would do it!)
Give more than you take
This is my favorite way to stand out as a blogger. I always talk about taking action and adding value to people’s lives, which is essentially giving, but what about giving away your time or money?
So many bloggers are obsessed, and I mean obsessed, with getting noticed and making money that they forget the true essence of abundance: you have to give to get.
With the recent events going on in the world, it’s time to stop being selfish and start being self-aware. Give away your time by volunteering in your community. Share a change.org petition on Facebook. Donate to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust - there are around 450,000 wild elephants and only 7,500 Sumatran orangutans left in the world.
Don’t wait for someone else, don’t wait until it’s “cool”, start now! Make a difference.
Give more than you take and you’ll get back more than you ever imagined.
Every time I’ve donated money to an organization or tipped someone above average, I’ve gotten it back tenfold. I’ve either sold things on eBay that had been sitting for months, got a nice tax break, or someone has given me money for no reason. Giving works so it’d be silly not to do it.
What is one thing unique to you that makes you stand out as a blogger? What problem do you solve? Share in the comments.
xx Britt
