A Guide to Byron Bay

Written by: Monica Bestek

The thing about Australia is that it’s bloody HUGE so it’s easy to forget about all the amazing places that are hidden in your own country!

Last week I took a quick flight from Sydney to Byron Bay and let me tell you, it was well worth it! I started every day with a run up to the famous Cape Byron Lighthouse and spent a moment just taking in the amazing view and the fresh morning air. Following the run was by far my favourite part of the day: Breakfast 🙂 ! It usually involved a lot of coffee – cappuccinos to be exact, summer porridge, avo and poached egg on toast, and of course coconut and chia pudding.

I was in my own little heaven with days filled with cooling off in the deep blue, rolling in white soft sand, eating amazing local food, wandering through cute boutique shops, chasing waterfalls, and getting in my daily sweat session! I absolutely love traveling and exploring new places! I will return to Byron as soon as possible - it’s become my new hide away!

I’ve put together a quick guide in case you ever get to visit Byron! Be sure to comment below if I’ve missed any fantastic places so I can catch it next time!

The Byron Bay Lighthouse - I know what you’re thinking… I thought it too - yay, another lighthouse…BUT it’s absolutely majestic and the walk up the hill on the jungle path is even better.

Sunrise - You need to witness a sunrise! It’s the most eastern point on the Australian Mainland and it’s absolutely magical! With incredible deep reds and oranges, you cannot miss it!

Airbnb - I love staying in Airbnbs because it’s a home away from home - ours even had a juicer, score! It’s great to have a kitchen with all the cooking necessities so you can eat healthy at home. We were lucky enough to have surfboards as part of our rental 😀

Farmers Market (Thursday 8am-11am) - I love going to the local farmer’s market, even if it’s just for a gander while chugging fresh juice. It was raining the day we went but it was still great to get out and check out all the beautiful local produce!

Folk - Great Avo on Toast in a super cute little cottage!

The Farm - Take a short drive from Byron and you will hit The Farm. Sunflower fields, muddy black pigs, a florist, bakery, and the Three Blue Ducks cafe are just some of the things to thoroughly enjoy at The Farm. We delved into some coffee and breakfast overlooking the beautiful landscape. Make a morning out of it!

The Top Shop - Damn good coffee and huge tasty muffins! Perfect for pick-me-up after climbing up the Lighthouse.

BayLeaf - Is located in town and serves incredible summer porridge! Oh, and they do a fricken coconut cold brew that’s possibly the most refreshing drink I’ve ever tried!

Harvest - Around a 20 minute drive from Byron lands you are in a cute little town called Newrybar. With awesome food you get to see prepared in the open kitchen, we relaxed in high-backed leather arm chairs, sipped cappuccinos, and watched the toast get crispy. We also stumbled upon the most amazing homewares shop: Newrybar Merchants and ended up spending a considerable amount of time meandering through the open space.

I hope you enjoy my video!
