Being that NYFW is forthcoming, it’s probably a pretty good idea to start thinking about refreshing your wardrobe so you can partake in the fashion parade. We love our staples and can’t ever seem to get enough of minimalism, but we’re also on the lookout for a few game changers to add that wow factor. We can’t help but salivate over the revival of a few key pieces from the past - after all, Spring 2016 seems to be a season of comebacks. Here’s all that you need to make the perfect update to your wardrobe.
#1 Anti-skinny Pants
Frayed Wide-Leg Cropped Jeans | High-Waisted Flared Jeans | Flared Cropped Jeans
You know those skinny bottoms we’ve accumulated over the years? Now’s about the right time to part, but not kind of the permanent farewell part given the fleeting cycle of fashion. We know we’re bound to be united again so just bury them in a safe place until skinnies make a comeback. That way, you can make room for wider leg openings and floor grazing lengths or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, culottes, which are finally burgeoning and embraced. All variations look surprisingly cool with #4 too (hint: Emmanuelle Alt).
#2 Shoulder Baring Something
Off-the-Shoulder Tunic | Off-the-Shoulder Sweater | Ruffled Off-the-Shoulder Top
We hope you’re not tired of seeing them yet because off-the-shoulder silhouettes aren’t going any where. We’re not opposed to this as there is nothing that speaks sexy quite subtly like this particular piece. It’s flirty in nature without being obviously revealing, making it as perfect for the beach as it is for a night out.
#3 Lingerie Details
Sleeveless Lace Dress | Silk Slip Dress | Eyelet Lace Dress
Whether you’re leaning towards strictly silk, in-your-face lace, or a combo of the two, you’re on the right track. 90s have weaned its way in for quite sometime now and it makes a grand entrance this season with the slip dress. For whatever reason, we have our eyes on pieces that seem to have came straight out of the bedroom - bedsheets, sleepwear, undergarments, satin pillow cases, etc. They do, surprisingly, have the power to make dressing quick and easy though. Statement-making in itself, you really don’t need much more - even sneakers are cool.
#4 Grandma-inspired Shoes
Velvet Block Heel Pumps | Scalloped Block Heel Pumps | Mary Jane Pumps
Step aside basic black booties and pointed toe pumps, low block heels and round (or squarish) toes are about to dominate - you know, the kind that err…your grandma used to wear - and we’re ready for it. All the better for our health too - comfortable and walking appropriate. And we’re totally down for the mule alternatives. Don’t hate the birth of the ugly footwear trend just yet, you might find yourself lusting over a pair once it settles in. (Thank you Chanel!)
#5 Neck Wreath
Hells Bells Choker Necklace | Swarovski Crystal Choker | Stretch Velvet Choker Necklace
Another one coming from one of our most prized eras, the 90s, though some might argue the Victorian, we welcome back the choker. Shown above are dainty, elegant versions, but don’t forget neck wreaths come in all shapes and forms. You can add your own touch of Dior with skinny scarves, men’s ties, or scraps of ribbon.
