7 Ways To Style Culotte Trousers

Written by: Sania Claus Demina

Are you Team Culotte yet?

The culotte is a very cropped trouser, often wide in the leg. It belongs to one of those trends people find difficult to wear. I’m a huge fan and was so excited to get the opportunity to style an editorial for Damernas Värld (Scandinavia’s largest fashion magazine and also oldest as it celebrates 75 years this year!). The goal was to show different ways to style different kinds of culottes and this is how it turned out.

We actually shot this all the way back in May, but it just came out recently. Crazy huh? Magazines are so far ahead with their productions which is completely opposite to the digital world of fashion press. Wishing I could learn something from it though and get better at planning my schedule...

Sorry, getting off topic here, back to culottes! Here are 7 styling ideas that we hope you like. Be sure to let us know what you think of this trend and if you’ve got yourself a favourite?

#1 Monochrome

Monochrome outfits tend to give an illusion of a long, lean body. Since culottes do cut off a piece of your legs and we can’t really walk around in high heels all day, making the look monochrome is brilliant. Gotta love white on white on white during winter. Coat and slip over turtleneck vest by Fall Winter Spring Summer / Long sleeve top by Weekday / Culottes by Ellos / Necklace by Lara Bohinc / Sneakers by Nike (Air Force 1)

#2 All About The Shoes

If you invest in shoes that are made to be shown off then a pair of culottes is exactly what they require. Coat by House of Dagmar / Shirt by Close by denim / Culottes by River Island / Sandals by Balmain x H&M

#3 Denim + Knits

Your denim culottes will look amazing with any cozy knit! This makes it a classic outfit with a twist. Knitted turtleneck sweater by Ganni / Denim culottes by Dr Denim / Leather shoes by Henry Kole Collection

#4 Asymmetrical Cuts

Styling the culottes is a lot about not letting them cut the legs off so asymmetrical sandals or pumps are great choice of shoes. Leather jacket by Weekday / Blouse by Gina Tricot / Culottes by Lindex / Gloves and bag by & Other Stories / Shoes by H&M

#5 Thigh High Boots

Thigh high boots are very essential this season and wearing them with your culottes is a great idea as they complete the look perfectly. Gotta love a culotte suit like this one! Suit by Ganni / Top by Samsøe & Samsøe / boots by NLY Shoes

#6 Festive Materials

Instead of wearing a cute skirt, get yourself a pair of festive culottes so wide you can style them as if it was a skirt. For a party? With a furry jacket and super high power heels. Fur by Stand / Culottes by BikBok / Pumps by Christian Louboutin.

#7 Leather Culottes

Leather culottes pair nicely with other natural materials, as worn here with a wool jacket and suede shoes. Jacket by Filippa K / Top by Wolford / Culottes by & Other Stories / Pumps by Vagabond
