There’s a whole load of discussion right now about how ‘Social Media is Fake’ but how to use social media the right way?
It’s true, alot of it is pretty fake. Packaging your life in a certain way so others might have a measured perception of it isn’t reality - but I don’t think influencers or anyone else using these mediums to share content need to be thrown under the bus for sharing images that don’t represent their reality. I just believe we should be responsible for our own influences - just like everything you experience each day makes up a part of who you are, those people you follow make up a little piece of you.
So do you feel better about your life by following particular people on instagram? Sometimes no. Most of us are probably guilty of hate-following a few people too. It’s like the equivalent of watching Soaps on TV or reading Tabloid magazines - that stuff turns your brain to mush #imguiltythough.
There’s a whole lot inspiring people to follow on Instagram. Artists, Politicians (the good ones), Poets, Writers, Activists, Tattoo Artists, Illustrators, Photographers, Painters, Singers, Actors. You should be following those who give your brain something more, something to think about, something to be inspired by. Anything that doesn’t make you excited about your life or make you want to achieve more? Unfollow that shit.
Seek out what’s beautiful. People who are encouraging. You’re the summary of everything you consume - so take control of that and make sure it’s going to be the things that leave a positive influence on your own psyche.
